Something to buy with G$...

Recommended Posts

As far as I can see the only thing you can do with G$ at the moment is accumulate them.  I kinda got bored with that after I got 500,000.  Isn't there SOMETHING they could be good for?

N.B.  I am not suggesting anyone would want to buy them with L$...

I am sure in the future being able to redeem G$ for something will be possible, at least it's been talked about a few times.

I personally tend to be more focused on the level rather than the money earned, as a lot of my freight vehicles don't make huge profits anyway.

It's definitely something we're going to do. Another thing in a long list of improvements we want to do for you all. ?

This is a fantabulous idea and would seriously boost our sense of purpose. In game currency is typically used as the base motivator in games as it can often be used for  fun and useful items that relate to the game concept itself. Game currency can really add huge incentive  if it can be spent and  you have to work for it. I can easily imagine content creators signing up as fast as Hub providers do (I'm sure there are lots of GTFO players who have something to offer for G's) and that would probably grow exponentially as more value and  enthusiasm is added and as more purchase or transfer options are created.......

A few ideas for how we might spend our G's....

- Actual Products (anything and everything)

- Services (graphic arts, lessons for any number of things, troubleshooting and repair, custom work, full service spas, restaurants, experiences, weddings, photographers, video production, ad-boards...to name a few)

- Tips for participating entertainers (a G tipjar would be great)

- Team Contributions (maybe  quotas per team member)

- Rentals (land parcels, boat slips, hangars, vehicle parking, homes-apartments-condos, office or work space)

- Entry Fees and Donations to GTFO! events and fundraisers

- Gifts to family members, friends and fellow players

- A GTFO Casino where we can gamble xD

 - Salaries for staff and team members (role played freight companies, mob families, smugglers, slavers and drug runners could really add some atmosphere to the game)

- Bribes for customs officers and DEA agents.

- A GTFO! store (branded merch - t-shirts, jackets, jewelry, etc etc)

- Vehicles (from both independent creators as well as 'official' vehicles from the game store.

- Rares (lots of games produce limited quantities of  fun and interesting items for players that spur a rabid trading system among players. "The fewer there are the more they are worth"

....... and auctions, tariffs, tolls, bounties, protection payoffs, airport and harbor fees, etc

Anyway, great idea Anna, and  great to hear there are  plans in the works Syler xD

I'm going to throw a cautionary wet towel in this conversation. As it stands now, $G are another form of points earned in game. Without a true default world value, everyone outside of Linden Lab is happy. Once you give them a default world monetary value, you immeadiately bring in regulators. This begins with LL, and can escalate up to FinCEN. Be very sure you want to open this can of worms. An easier method is to keep them strictly tradeable as the afforementioned points in game.

That's the main reason we've not done anything with it yet. We know how pissy LL would be if we gave them a linden equivalent. One thing we can do is have items that are not available anywhere for linden currency. If they're only purchasable with G$, then we should be okay. In any event, we'll come up with something. 😃

An interesting idea for this would to be create a penalty system to charge Fines for taking too long to deliver, failure to deliver, etc. Perhaps even Captains Licenses, where you pay for a license separately to haul certain specialty Freight Types (such as premium, dangerous, live animals, etc).

Being able to 'pay' out (Give) your G$ to other players will introduce a separate barter market system independent of L$ valuation, including 'employing' deck crew for larger ships. This would be equivalent to loot-sharing between teammates in any other game.

Later down the road when/if/etc a smuggling system is complete, can introduce outside groups, such as Police and Coast Guards to be able to search cargo holds and establish criminal penalties through an 'enforcement hud' or something similar. This could also introduce another role-play element to this system for maritime law and courts.

In addition to the suggestions i made above. the Give/Pay idea will work too for a Passenger / Ferry (tourism) system where passenger service providers can receive G$ from other players HUDs or a 'click to get ticket' device that autopays the G$ to the driver for residents who are not GTFO players.
